The Canadian Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabinoids (CCIC)

The CCIC is a federally registered nonprofit organization. The mission of the CCIC is to promote evidence-based research and education concerning the therapeutic uses of cannabis and cannabinoids. The purpose of the CCIC is to advance the understanding of the role of cannabinoids in health and disease through research and education.

On behalf of its members, the Consortium will:

  • Advance basic and clinical research on the therapeutic applications of cannabinoids
  • Inform and advise healthcare providers of cannabinoid therapeutic options
  • Create a networking forum for canadian researchers investigating cannabinoids

THE GOALS OF THE CCIC ARE:

  • The promotion of research regarding cannabinoids, including facilitation of interdisciplinary and inter-institutional cannabinoid research in Canada.
  • Provide evidence-based resources for educational programs on cannabinoid therapeutics.
  • Promote accurate media coverage of medical cannabinoid issues.
  • Apply to federal and provincial governmental agencies for funds for research and education on cannabinoids.
  • Liaise with provincial formulary committees regarding coverage of cannabinoid medications when appropriate.
  • Facilitate ongoing development of Medical Marihuana Access Regulations.

THE CCIC IS PLEDGED TO FULFILL ITS MISSION AND ADVANCE ITS GOALS THROUGH:

  • Supporting the activities of Consortium committees and working groups in education and research.
  • Serving as an advocate for evidence-based cannabinoid therapeutics.
  • Liaising with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), Health Canada and provincial licensing bodies.
  • Liaising with the Canadian Pain Society (CPS) and with other organizations that share the Consortium’s aims and objectives.
